  • Your choice to design suncatcher to hang and brighten a room or maybe you spend time on your patio or outdoors and would love to see something pretty in your garden. This is a beginner class and for those that have some experience with glass, even better. We will work closely with each participant to carry out your design ideas whether it be abstract or nature inspired.
In this art glass workshop, we will go over the very basics of kiln fused glass work. Topics discussed will be safety, glass compatibility, glass colorings, types of glass, tools needed, kiln information on fused glass manufacturers. Demonstrations of how to score and break glass, layout and design suggestions.
Bring in your ideas for art or you may want to look through my file of completed fused glass ideas.
After assembly, your art piece will be transported to Palm Cottage Studio and carefully fired and annealed in a digital kiln. After firing your suncatcher holes will be drilled at the top with a diamond glass bit and your sparkling glass crystal octagon beaded chain will be attached and ready to hang. If you chose the garden stake your work will have a sleeve for the stake to easily fit and you will be given a green stake for your art. Your finished art work will be arranged for pick up at the Library through the Artists’ Guild of Columbia County the following Saturday or possibly delivery in the North Augusta area.
Safety: Closed toe shoes must be worn. Safety glasses (will be provided) and must be worn for eye protection during class for cutting, snipping glass and grinding glass.
Additional Notes: Wear casual comfortable clothing and a plastic disposable apron is available if needed. Standing, sitting and walking is required. Using your hands is required for this art form. If you wear corrective lenses, bring them!
